Rationale


This course will empower students to gain practical, best-practice knowledge necessary for critically assessing key energy challenges. Through it, students will enhance their understanding of vital energy management concepts, global energy issues, trends, and challenges. Additionally, students will develop strategies and environmentally sustainable approaches aimed at addressing these challenges effectively.

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with a comprehensive overview of available energy supply options, infrastructure planning, public engagement and the challenges associated with global energy supply security.

Learning Outcomes


At the end of the course, students will be expected to:
(i)    Analyse key global challenges and issues, such as the security of supply and the carbon challenge, as well as the full extent of energy supply options (e.g. oil and gas, cleaner coal, nuclear power and renewable sources).
(ii)   Identify environmental issues regarding the energy use and critically evaluate the influence of national and international environmental policies on energy markets. 
(iii)  Examine the energy policy frameworks, strategies and support mechanisms in a broader international context. 
(iv)  Assess the energy sector strategic feedback to key global challenges and issues, as well as governmental initiatives.
