Course Description:

Develop computer networking knowledge, including the existing connectivity technologies and the required infrastructure
Define the key issues for the realization of the LAN/WAN/MAN network architectures and the hybridized existing form in the business environment and industry
Form a substantial foundation of the layered approach leading to the design, implementation and operation of extensive networks possible
Provide an understanding of the basic protocols involved in wired/wireless communication process
Connect various network performance concepts and traffic issues for
Quality of Service (QoS) in broadband communication, including network economics of the industry
Develop skills in foundational design principles of broadband wired and wireless communication networks in the business environment, as well as understand how to model and analyze the structural performance for some commonly-used architectures in the business network sector
Develop network security practices in organizational units
Enable students to acquire basic knowledge on different aspects of classical computer and network security paradigms
Construct solid foundations to evaluate contemporary security policies and security mechanisms within organizations and demonstrate the balance of the managerial and technical aspects of network security

Discuss the physical and logical including electrical characteristics of digital signals and the basic methods of data transmission.
Understand the importance of the ISO 7-layer reference model.
Understand the requirements hosted in communication protocols and give an overview of data communication standards, how these standards were created and under what assumptions they were adopted to.
Understand the area of computer networks in relation to connectivity, mobility and the role of metrics, highlighting the range of the used communication protocols.
Examine basic protocols involved in wired/wireless communication process.
Explore the design principles of wired and wireless communication networks.
Examine the electrical interface and the foundation of digital data transmission.
Connect various network performance aspects and traffic issues for Quality of Service (QoS) in broadband communication.
Be able to design reliable wireless networks and to learn the way to analyze and model the structural performance for some widely used in business network architectures.
Analyze the fundamentals and technologies of physical, data-link and network layers.
Acquire basic knowledge on the fundamentals of cryptography such as symmetric/asymmetric encryption, digital signatures, and hash functions.
Examine and analyze current network authentication application, PKI, Web security and their weaknesses.
