Course Description:
Rationale
This course provides students with the necessary tools, methodologies and processes to effectively monitor and control a project and make informed and fact-based decisions. Project monitoring and control is the proactive way to detect problems, analyse their causes and effects in order to take corrective actions. The students will learn how to analyse measures of project performance and evaluation as well as manage unexpected changes throughout the development of the project. The course also explores the concept of Earned Value Management and other available techniques used, for re-aligning a project with its specific objectives and constraints in order to make improvements.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Explain the various techniques and processes used for monitoring and controlling a project.
(ii) Interpret information correctly and share it with the project team.
(iii) Identify problematic areas and take corrective actions.
(iv) Identify trends, opportunities and threats, in order to proactively manage the project.
(v) Implement standard monitoring and change management practices to control project execution.
(vi) Explain decision analysis.
(vii) Measure project performance for reporting and review purposes.

(ix) Discuss effective team-building methods.
(x) Describe techniques for managing stakeholder expectations.
(xi) Define Earned Value Management techniques and their role in project monitoring.
