Course Description:

Rationale
Science is one of the most important subjects in pre-primary as the curious young minds are unstoppable but ready to explore the world. The potential teachers are therefore tasked to ensure the teaching of sciences encourages and enables students to: develop inquiring minds and curiosity about science and the natural world. Acquiring knowledge, conceptual understanding and skills to solve problems and make informed decisions in scientific and other contexts of essence are elements that this course will provide. The methods used and their practicality to the student remains of importance. The potential teacher is expected to demonstrate variety in the teaching process to make science an interesting, curiosity generating subject as much as possible.


Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course students will be expected to:


(i)   Develop SMART objectives.
(ii)  Design modern teaching approaches and activities in the teaching of children in kindergarten.
(iii) Develop basic research skills on issues related to the examination of their prior knowledge, attitudes perceptions as well as the attitudes of the kindergarten pupils about Natural Sciences.
(iv) Develop personal philosophies for learning and teaching physicist’s science in kindergarten.
(v)  Illustrate thinking skills and scientific method.
(vi) Explain the cognitive development and the learning process in children.
(vii) Design different teaching approaches by translating theory into practice.
