Course Description:
Rationale
This course is essential to this programme as it provides students with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the programme, into a cohesive project. It engages upper-level web development students in current industry standards used in designing content for multimedia and interactive communication. Emphasis is placed on designing for computers, tablets and phones as well as on the integration of several software packages for web design problem solving. Central to the course is also the conceptualisation and the mastery of professional site mapping and wire framing techniques. By working on a holistic project, students gain insight into the challenges and constraints of real-world web development projects, preparing them for the realities of working in the industry post-graduation.
This course aims to enable students to integrate all their knowledge of web design and development by creating a solution to a real-world web development problem.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course students will be expected to:
(i) Conduct thorough research to develop a project brief and define its scope.
(ii) Employ a range of web design techniques and software to design practical applications that are compatible with a variety of mobile devices.
(iii) Manage time and resources efficiently to meet project deadlines, employing a structured and logical approach to the development of significant projects.
(iv) Evaluate critically the decision-making process throughout the project's development.
(v) Communicate the project's outcomes and methodologies to a professional standard, reflecting on the project's context and implications.
